Trek - Khunjrab Pass (China Border)

We took a drive from Pasu through the Khunjrab National Park to the Chinese border one day. It was a long drive over the bumpy KKH and got colder the higher in elevation we climbed. The Jeeps had a hard time in the 16,000 feet elevation and wanted to stall out, so we only had a few minutes to enjoy the border!
On the drive we were able to see some mountain Yak, a few Ibex, and lots of Marmots!

I'm in China!!!

It was a wonderful surprise! I didn't think we would be able to step into China, but some Chinese men were working on a building and invited us to come over to them! It was awesome!

China...can you see the fence going up the mountain?

This is the police and immigration station in Pakistan. We stopped here to get permission to continue up to the Khunjrab Pass. We had to be escorted by a police officer just in case there was a problem at the border. Then on the way back we stopped to have Chai with the police. It was nice to get warmed up from our drive up and back in the freezing cold...with the Jeep tops down! It was well worth the uncomfortableness of being cold!!

We were all crowded into the room where the police stay and sleep. There were 4 beds along the walls, which served as our seats. After the Chai was finished, they served it to us with some nan bread and honey. We were treated with royalty!
