A CICD day...
Every morning I would stand by the gate to the Guest House by 8am and wait for my ride...
..when I saw the van pull up, I would walk down to it. I didn't like standing down at the street by myself in the mornings...I felt a little safer by the gate. Then after getting into the vehicle, I would have to greet each person. It is very impolite to not greet each one personally upon arriving or leaving their presence! So, hellos, handshakes and kisses to the back of the hand later...our greeting was complete!
Farzana working After each person was picked up, we headed back to the 'office'. The girls would go over paperwork and assignments and head to the villages by 9am.
Zahida with her paperwork.
Then we would head to a village. Each month they would concentrate on one village, see each disabled child, and then go to a different village the next month. Two girls would always go together into a home.
They always came prepared with puzzles, Lincoln logs, blocks, and many other hand-eye coordination games -- all home made! This is Farzana with Basset, the little boy I made the helmet for.
CICD also made wheel chairs, position chairs, crutches, and other hand made devices to help the improve the child's well being.
This little boy was the first child I visited with the girls. He is from a very poor family and is neglected most of the day. He had many sores and scars from just laying in one position all day long. During my last day in the villages with the girls, we took him a special chair so he could sit up and look around instead of laying in a corner all day. It was wonderful to see the sweet little boy before and then after his chair was given. I was SO blessed to share in his happiness!
Feeling out his new chair...I think he approves!
This is us and our Super Van!! I can't believe it could even travel in some of the roads we went on! Some roads were only 4X4 roads, and so narrow that the mirrors almost touched the stone walls on each side, and sometimes I didn't know how we were going to make it, but we always did! Of course we had a great driver: Super Man! .... I made a comment about the 'Super Van' once in sheer amazement that we made it through an almost impassable road. They didn't hear me correctly and thought I said "Super Man"...meaning the driver! SO, Naheem, our driver, became 'Super Man'.
Naheem and Robina
Me and Shamsi
Saleema, Farzana, Nasreen, and Zahida
This is wonderful! Such beautiful people. How blessed to be able to make such a difference!
