Saturday was a very busy day for us. In the morning we held a VBS for the children ages 3-12. Each of us at were at different stations: Bible story, crafts, snacks, sports, music, etc. After 20min or so we would rotate the groups so each child could attend each station. We started out with about 75 children and ended up with about 375-400 children! The children had a blast even though it was the first time for them to ever make a craft -- they didn't have a clue of what to do, even after being shown! It was the same way with the snacks --what ARE Oreo cookies?? They soon found out and enjoyed them -- we even had adults asking for Oreo cookies. :)
When we arrived at the Olelai church that morning, there were already women lined up waiting for the lecture and clinic which we were going to have in the afternoon. After lunch I taught some community health information like clean water, worms, etc., Carrie shared a little about purity, and Emily taught the women about Cervical Cancer. The women chose that subject since a large majority (75-80%) of the women have Cervical Cancer in that village!
After teaching the women, Emily and I set up a small clinic so the local women could get medical treatment. We had two different interpreters with us so we could communicate and diagnose their medical problems. They were such a great help! Some of the issues we treated were: ringworm, aches and pains, UTI's, STD's, eye and ear infections, etc. We were also able to give each family water purification tablets as well as de-worm medication. I believe we saw close to 500 people in less than 4 hours!
